After the Hair Transplant Operation
Proper post-hair-transplant care is essential for natural results and long-term graft survival. Follow these simple aftercare instructions to heal faster, avoid infection, and protect your newly transplanted hair.
Your grafts are delicate during the first 10–15 days. Avoid touching, scratching, or bumping your scalp. When going outside, wear a loose hat to protect the area from direct sunlight and accidental contact.
Sleep in a semi-upright position for the first two nights to prevent swelling and graft displacement. Use a neck pillow instead of a regular one to reduce friction.
Do not wash your hair for the first 48 hours. Your first wash should be done gently following your doctor’s instructions. Avoid hot water, strong pressure, or rubbing. Always air-dry—no blow-dryers.
Use only the prescribed lotion, shampoo, or medications. These help reduce redness, itching, and infection risk. Avoid over-the-counter hair products unless approved by your doctor.
For three weeks, avoid any styling gels, sprays, dyes, or conditioners. These chemicals may irritate the scalp and damage healing grafts.
For the first week, do not engage in heavy exercise, sauna, or swimming. Alcohol and blood-thinning drugs should also be avoided, as they may increase bleeding and slow recovery.
